Obituary MR V. D. CLUTTERBUCK

Mr V. D. Clutterbuck a prominent trainer at Riccarton for many years, died in Christchurch this week. He was 69. Mr Clutterbuck’s best winner was Cheyenne, which won the Winter Cup in 1958 and 1960, plus many other races in the South Island, as well as at Trentham.

He also trained the handsome chestnut. Royal Bid. to win the 1966 New Zealand Cup, and Melinda Jane, Americus, Canadiana, and Yosemite. Before that, Mr Clutterbuck trained trotters in the Wairarapa area for Mrs L. K. Page, and after regular success moved to Riccarton.

Without training a big team, Mr Clutterbuck, assisted by his wife, had considerable success with horses owned by Mrs Page, and later, as a public trainer. Failing health forced him to give up training horses a fewyears ago. Since then, lie had been chicken farming at West Melton.
