HORSE TALK
After the successful Horse of the Year Show at Rangiora, Waimate ->taged the next show on the South Island jprcuit. The Ashburton ’ rider, Miss L. Memn. won the Wills Grand Prix on Glen Mist, from B An<|ersons Cardiff Lass, and was also third in the Optimist Stakes, which was won by Bush Creek (J. Dunn). Bush Creek also won the A Grade Table A. Other successful Canterbury horses were Amego (L. Diggs in the C Grade Table A: Endeavour. (Mrs J. Clarkson) was second in the Novice T A. and upgraded to win the Improver "take your own line"; Kai Bank (Miss D. Killey) and Anzac (D. Letham) both had seconds in C Grade events: .and Condor was third to Nightcall and Harvest Gold in the open dressage. Penny Lane (S. Bell) which had jumped so well at Rangiora, won the Champion Pony Jump, while Tango (Moore and Marks), collected a second and third in A and C Grade events Buckskin (M. Dailey) with a sefond anti a fourth, upgraded to improver. Outgo show
The Otago Area N.Z.H.S. staged the next circuit show at Dunedin.
Here the feature jump was won by the Invercargill horse, The Shah (K McHugh) from Mighty Tarn (Mrs A. McCully, Ashburton). Mighty Tarn' was also second to Bush* Creek, with Glen Mist third in the A Grade T.A. The two hunter events were won by Blackie and Beh’s Condor and Vigilant?. Another Ashburton horse to jump well in the C Grade events, was Anzac (D. Letham).
The Pony Championship Jump, open to all ponies, was won by the former Catverbury pony. Playboy, which is going very well fot his new owner, M. Brown of Dunedin. Naireena (L. Collins) and Popomint (P. McCall) were second and third, while Canterbury’s Buckskin was fourth. Buckskin was also third in an Improver T.A.
The final circuit show at Invercargill was the Wills South Island Horse of the Year Showjumping Championships. The Grand Prix was won by Henry Lea (D. Hamilton) with five faults. Second equal were Bush Creek, Mighty Tarn and Roginda (Mrs R. Mackay) with eight faults. Bush Creek had two wins, the Six
Bar’ana a Table A which gave him the Equizole Points Prize. Mighty Tarn gained further successes in winning a Table A event and was second in the “take your own line”. In the C grade events, Anzac. with two wins upgraded, and jumped well for fourth in the A Grade T.A. Avalanche, ridden by J. Stevenson (Hamner Springs) was second in a Table A. while Lancewood ridden by R. Grimsey (Oxford) went well to upgrade to C. In the “take your own line.” the Canterbury horses, Anzac Lacewood and Simon Peter, filled the first three places. lan Bell (Rakaia) was also successful in the Combined Competition, being first and second with Condor and S’mon Peter. The South Island Pony of the Year, resulted in a win for Henry (Telfer family) who was Champion Pony Hunter at Christchurch last year. Buckskin' again jumped well for a second and fourth equal, followed by a win which upgraded him to C. The big event for Improver Horses, the Southland Stakes, in which the top 12 from two qualifying rounds complete, wa% won by the Canterbury rider, Miss G. Wilding, on Miss Gilpin, which was the only horse to go clear in the jumpoff over raised fences.
