BILLY GOAT BLAMED

(N Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. March 8. An unfriendly billy goat has been blamed for the four-day ordeal of a Palmerston North draughtsman, Mr W. J. Hedley, who was rescued by helicopter from a ravine in the upper Waitotara Valiev yesterday. Mr Hedley, who was found in dense bush by a Wanganui search party, had been traoped in at the bottom of the steep 50ft

ravine since Sunday. Today, Mr Hedley said that on Sunday morning he was returning to rendezvous with two tramping companions. “I was near the edge of a ravine, and bent to remove stinging nettle from my socks. I bent down, heard the noise of a goat behind me, felt him connect with my backside . . . and there I was at the bottom of the ravine,” he said. “And I know no-one Is going to believe me.”
