Big rise in values
The capital value of property in the Cheviot County have doubled, from sl3m to s26m, in the last five years. The value of improvements has risen from $7.5m to $9.7m, and land value is fixed at $16.6m. The district valuer of the Valuation Department (Mr R. Calderwood) said that Cheviot County had shown steady development over the last five years, especially on the steeper downs and low hill areas where many acres of new grassland had replaced scrub. Changes in, farm-manage-ment techniques and an improved rural water-supply had increased production, in spite of prolonged summer droughts. During the last year, property in the county worth $1,110,000 had changed hands, because of the attractive nature of the area and the high standard of county amenities, Mr Calderwood said. Valuers will meet owners at the county office on March 25 to discuss values.
