fN.Z P.A Kent er—Copyright) ADDIS ABABA. March 8.

Emperor Haile Selassie’s ministers were todav seeking a formula to end labour unrest which has culminated in a general strike by 85.000 workers., The strike, in its second day today, has hit airlines, road and rail traffic, hotels, banks and industry. Essential sendees and telecommunications have been kept going.

The stoppage comes after last week’s military revolt, toppling a Government which had ruled for more than 10 years. The new Prime Minister, Mr Endalkatchew Makonnen, aged 46. has promised urgent action on the workers’ demands. which include a minimum wage of three Ethiopian dollars a day (about SNZI) and new labour laws. Some workers at present get just one dollar (about 36 N.Z. cents).
