To give pupils the basic skills of literacy and to train them to think and to evaluate are essentials of education. I believe, however, that the great challenge to educationalists is to int.il the desire to learn, to think and to re-evaluate. If this is truly imparted it will last throughout life. However, it is sad that many teachers have not had their own appetites for continual thinking stimulated. But then thinking, like work, is not popular throughout our society today.
