Cricket tactics

Sir, —For years we have had a series of drawn games of cricket. I view with a great deal of displeasure the tactics of the Australian captain in the test just completed at Wellington. There appeared to be only one objective, to put the name of Chappell in the record books. Which is more important—to draw and create a personal best, or, give a target to chase? A tour like this is too valuable an opportunity ,to draw in the crowds and give the game a much needed boost. I hope the second test provides a definite result.—Yours, etc., JOHN ELMES March 6, 1974.
