The latest Formula 1 Lotus — now known, of course, as a John Player Special for sponsorship reasons — has four pedals and an electric clutch. There are two brake pedals, an accelerator and a clutch, but the clutch pedal is used only for standing starts —■ from then on, a button on the gear-lever disengages the drive for gearchanges. The driver uses left-foot braking during normal driving, allowing him to keep one foot still on the accelerator. During “panic” type braking he uses his right foot — even both feet. The two brake pedals are linked, and both work the full braking system in the normal way.
