Council wants counsellor
j The provision of counselling services for both divisions of the Christchurch Teachers’ College was a matter of the utmost urgency, the college council decided on Wednesday evening. The primary division has not yet been given a replacement for the position of student counsellor which became vacant at the end of last year, and no provision is made in the staffing entitlement for a student counsellor at the secondary division.
In common with all other professional groups, teacher trainees were subjected to increasing stress, and counselling services must be provided if waste of young talent was to be avoided, the district senior inspector of primary schools (Mr B. J. Wilson) said.
