CELEBRATION TEST
Ihe Wellington batsman. J. F. M. .Morrison, will not have to make a century in today’s test match with Australia to remember the occasion fondly.
At 9 p.m. yesterday, his wife Cathy, gave birth to their first child, Sally Elizabeth, who weighed “seven pounds plus," according to Morrison’s report. Morrison did not come to Christchurch with the other players yesterday, but will arrive this morning an hour-and-a-half before the match begins.
There were fears last night that he might not be able to get to Christchurch in time, because of the indifferent weather, and the chairman of the selectors
(.Mr K. R. Deas) and the New Zealand captain (B. E. Congdon) conferred on the possibility of having another plaver on stand-by duty.
No selection was made.
however, as forecasts late last evening suggested there was very little likelihood of either Wellington or Christchurch airports being closed.
