Firm prices prevail in Australia
Australian markets were firm in quiet trading conditions yesterday, although a late weakness was apparent in selected issues. Gold stocks and oils were among the day’s best performers.
Emperor rose 8c to 228 c, Central Norseman 5c to 180 c and Peko-Wallsend 6c to 626 c. Ampol stood out among the oils with a 10c rise to 130 c while A.A.R. climbed 5c to 120 c and Woodside-Burmah land Weeks also moved ahead. I Mainline dropped 15c to '2osc on the lower interim i results, but Howard Smith, jMyers, the C.B.C. and Hooker! 'made up for this with a series lof sharp gains. B.N.S.W. rose 14c to 844 c while B.H.P. advanced 20c to 820 c.
