LAWYER CHARGED

A barrister and solicitor who appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday on nine charges relating to offences involving dishonesty allegedly committed while be was in practice In Christchurch was remanded on bail to March 1. He is Brian Anthony Hunt, aged 32 (Mr K. N. Hampton). No plea was entered. Hunt Is charged with three offences of theft of sums totalling 52168.90. fraudulently applying $5200 to a purpose other than for which it was received, forging two memorandums of mortgage, two offences of forging a trust account, and one of forging a decree absolute in divorce.

The offences are alleged to have been committed between Mav 1, 1972, and January 16.

Mr \V. F. Brown, S.M., refused to grant an application for suppression of the defendant’s name. On the application of Detective Sergeant T. O. Tozer, the names of the complainants were suppressed.
