Levy sought for parking
The Christchurch City Council will seek the power to levy special rates to provide off-street parking. A remit to the Municipal Association seeking support in an approach to the Government for empowering legislation was adopted at the council’s meeting last evening. The council wants to be able to declare, at its own discretion, special rating areas in which separate rates can be levied on the basis of capital rateable value, the proceeds to be used solely for off-street parking facilities and ancillary services.
