Oil from China

The Hong Kong Government has agreed to allot land on Tsing Island and in Shatin for the building of oil storage facilities by China Resources in expectation of large quantities of oil and oil products from China.

This has been disclosed by the Deputy Colonial Secretary (Mr Michael Clinton >, who also said that the facili ties would enable China Resources to import significant quantities of oil to Hong Kong on a regular long-term basis.

According to China Resources, China has agreed to allot to the company a total of 300,000 tons of oil products during 1974. This would meet 41 per cent of Hong Kong’s requirements. Mr Clinton said that the import of oil from China would be welcome, since it was expected that the supply of oil in the coming year (from elsew’here would be (reduced by 10 per cent.
