Callas concert cancelled

C.V.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright; NEW YORK, Feb. 18. The opera star, Maria Callas, last night withdrew, at the last minute, from the gala concert that was to have been her first in New York for nine years. The proceeds were to have gone to the Metropolitan Opera Guild. Only 20 minutes before the concert was due to begin, it was announced that it was cancelled “because of Madame Callas’s sudden indisposition.” The reason for the cancellation was later given as a respiratory infection. By the time of the announcement, the hall, which holds 2800 people, was beginning to fill.
