The French Lawn Tennis; Federation has announced that it will no longer take! part in the work of the International Lawn Tennis I Federation.
It says its boycott is in protest against the I.L.T.F. decision to recognise the World Team Tennis intercity tournament.
The I.L.T.F recognition accepts that World Team Tennis may hold tournament at the same time as the French and Italian open championships. The president of the French federation (Mr P. Chatrier) said all players under the contract with the inter-city tournaments would be banned from the French championships, from .lune 3 to 16.
French players who signed World Team Tennis contracts! would not be selected for Davis Cup competition, and the French federation was considering refusing to play; against any Davis Cup team! which contained a player! under contract to World Team Tennis.
Mr Chatrier said Spain, Italy, West Germany, Switzerland. Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden were likely to fall into line! behind France.
France was not resigning from tne international feder-l ation, he said. “But until fur-! ther notice, the French federation refuses to take part in the work of the I.L.T.F. We will no longer sit in on meetings.”
