Take-over bid tipped
The Canterbury Farmers Co-operative Association, Ltd, Timaru, stock and station agent and general merchant, has advised shareholders that they “should not sell their shares in the meantime.”
It is believed that J. E. Watson and Company, Ltd, the Invercargill stock and station and merchant group, is interested in acquiring the Timaru company. Directors’ advice not to sell always means that an important development is afoot which may favourably affect the value of the shares — more often than not an impending takeover bid. The chairman of C.F.C.A. (Mr G. J. Slater) said last night: “I cannot divulge the reasons for it. because other people are involved. “The directors decided that shareholders should be told there is something on.”
