Weather lifts produce prices
Hot weather had increased the! demand for lettuces, causing: prices to increase sharplv, said I ■fhe president of the Canterbury: Fruit Retailers’ Association (Mr K. A. Fuller) yesterday. The prices of tomatoes had firmed slightly, and cucumbers were plentiful and available al ! reduced prices. Cauliflowers have also been affected by the warm weather, and crop returns are down, and prices up sharply. Other cooking vegetables are in fair supply and at firm prices. Some stone fruit from southern districts have been affected by a severe rain storm, but is in good supply and meeting the de mand. Prices have increased over the last three weeks Bananas are readily available but orange supplies have ceased. A shipment of Florida grape- | fruit and Californian oranges ‘ should be available in shops later [this week said Mr Fuller Bon Chretien pears are on sale : but apple supplies are extremely ■ short. i Berry fruit supplies are very I limited and prices up.
Winter Olympics.—The executive board of the International Olympic Committee has ruled ! that ice dancing and a men’s 11000 m speedskating event will be included in the programme '■ for the 1976 Winter Olympics at I Innsbruck. Austria. Twelve | teams each of men and women will be allowed to compete in ■gymnastic events at the Olym'pic Games in Montreal the same ■ year, and four groups of individual gymnasts for men and 'women each composed of six i participants, will be permitted to compete.
