Price rises forecast

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. The high price of fuel will lead to a 30 per cent increase in the cost of living throughout the world, according to a millionaire Greek shipowner, Mr T. Chandris. Mr Chandris. head of the Chandris Lines which run passenger ships between New Zealand and Europe and on Pacific cruises, is visiting New Zealand.

Fuel prices for shipping had risen 380 per cent since October, 1973, and Chandris Lines had recently put an $BO surcharge on passenger fares to Europe and a 10 per cent surcharge on cruise fares, he said. However, this covered less than half the increase. Mr Chandris hoped that oil prices will drop so that the surcharge will cover the increased costs. The company has no plans to change the itineraries of any of its passenger ships running to New Zealand.
