Special meeting of society
\ special general meeting of members of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society would be vailed within a month, the council of the soviet' decided after discussion in committee on Wednesday evening the secretary (Mr .1. M. ( hecketts) said yesterday.
It is believed the meeting is being called to consider a ("'orsiitutional crisis" which has arisen — this was the matter set down on the agenda for Wednesday’s : meeting for consideration in committee. At the society's annual meeting in November mem-
ibers voted in favour of asking the Governor-General to suspend the council and place 'the society’s affairs in the hands of the secretary. In December the council announced that it had decided on ‘well-researched .legal advice" to continue running die society’s business. On Wednesday, objections were raised to the way in which three vacancies on rhe council had been filled. The 1973 election to fill the vacancies had been invalidated because of a clerical error. The chairman (Mr G. Mugford) said on Wednesday that a previous council meeting had given the executive power to act, and to offer the vacant positions to the runners-up in the previous election. This had been done.
