'No reduction’ in Enex activities
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, February 14
There would be no reduction in the activities of Enex, said the chairman (Mr R. M. Tonkin) in Auckland today.
Mr Tonkin, replying to; press statements attributed to him recently said he was concerned that the impression might have been gained from them that the organisation was in severe difficulty.
“This is not so,” he said. “We want our important audiences—our members, the people in the Government who have placed such faith in us over the years, overseas aid organisations, and commercial concerns — to know that it is not true.” Mr Tonkin said that because the nature of Enex business was in securing contracts which usually had long completion dates, it was in- ' evitable the association' would meet cash-flow problems from time to time.
The present' situation was
covered by overdraft. “This has now been given to us, and there are sufficient projects in the pipeline to ensure: we meet all our commit-; ments,” Mr Tonkin said. Referring to the term “re-; trenchment,” used in some reports, Mr Tonkin said this had created the wrong impression in relation to staff moves within the organisation. “What has happened is that our chief executive has left us, and we will appoint a new manager to replace him At the end of this financial year, an executive member of our office staff will also be leaving.” Of Mr K. L. Hogg’s resignation, Mr Tonkin said that; it had been made perfectly! clear, in writing, that this' was for business reasons.
