Union ban on port

I (N.Z. Preus Association) DUNEDIN, February 14. In an effort to “get some action from the Government” i the Otago Storemen and ; Packers’ Union has banned [goods consigned from Timaru to the port of Otago. A similar ban has been imposed by the Canterbury Storemen and Packers’ Union. The secretary and vice- | president of the Otago Storemen and Packers’ Union said tonight that the ban would continue “until the Minister of Labour can Icontrol the militancy of the Waterside Workers’ Union. Mr Anderson said that perishable goods would be handled. He said that the Timaru watersiders had claimed the right to pack certain cargo. “We’ve been pushed too far. and now they’re after our jobs.”

The first ship expected from Timaru will arrive on February 26.
