The Apollo ferry craft splashed down on target on Friday morning about 170 miles south-west of San Diego, California. Medical officials reported that the astronauts were in better shape than expected, though they had a minor but unexpected scaling of the skin on their hands and some thickening of their fingers.
As anticipated, the men had grown about 14in taller during the flight because of lack of pressure on their spines, but doctors reported that they were already returning 'to their original heights.
