Hottest day of summer
Christchurch had its hottest day of the summer on Saturday when a maximum temperature of 34deg. was recorded at Christchurch Airport. At Rangiora, a maximum temperature of 35.6 deg. was recorded by Mr G. C. Beattie, beating the previous highest
this summer of 31.5 deg., registered twice. Beaches and picnic spots in North Canterbury attracted probably their biggest crowds of the season. The temperature at Kaikoura was 33deg., the highest recorded since official reicords began in 1964.
