Second win to Land Point
Land Point, which is to contest the Autumn Handicap at Addington Raceway next Saturday, to be followed by the Wellington meeting later in the month, gained his second win in less than a fortnight at Forbury Park on Saturday night.
He drifted badly after starting from 20 metres, but improved sharply over the last 1000 metres and put in a determined run in the straight to win by a length and a quarter from Waipounamu, which had his chance.
All Alone, handily placed all the way, held on for third, ahead of Screws Loose, which made up ground after being near the tail of the field on the home turn. Jillinda and Rodney Dale headed the others. NARROW WIN Red Skin, a lightly-raced gelding by Bachelor Hanover from Star News in the West Melton team of his part-owner. J. S. Dalgety, showed ability to win the First Times Handicap. He was cheeked early and well out of his ground until late in the race. He came fast wide out to get up in the last few strides to win by a neck from HaJlmaster. which was close up for most of the way. although he tangled with 1900 to run and checked Mighty Tuft. Old Salt, which received the run of the race, was only a nose back, a length in front of Chatterton and Mighty Tuft. Mighty Tuft did well as he tried to lead for the last 1500 m after being checked twice in the first 400 m. Mystery Box trailed Music Hall to the straight in the Otago Pace, and came fast to win by a short length from Master Terry, which raced on the outer and in the open. Ribands Girl came strongly from near the tail of the field to take third, clear of the others. Sue followed up a long list of placings with a deserved win in the Twilight Handicap. She rushed to the front with IOOOni left and held on well to win with a good deal in hand. Twilight Fair which was later disqualified for breaking near the end. Airdrie, Quiet Native. Moody Heather and Rere Hine were together in that order. UPSET Flying Tempest, owned and trained at Yaldhurst by C. W. McLachlan, caused a surprise when he led throghout the Second Times Handicap. He held on gamely over the final stages to beat the win favourite. Delbrae, by half a length. Majestic Pride, which came in for surprisingly strong support, was a neck away after racing in the open. The others, headed by Living Doll, were well beaten. Jamaican came fast from midfield on the turn to win the! Star Pace by a length from Joy-| giver, Hal Foyle, and Rory, I which made up ground. The favourite, Speedy King, was never a danger and finished; eighth. The consistent Canny Glen.’ raced by Mr H. A. A. Thomas,j of Invercargill, who has Hi Foyle; at the Inter-Dominion Championship series in Perth, gained aj deserved win the Farewell Pace.' After forcing most of the pace,, he looked to be beaten by Delvin: Scott inside the final 100 m, but; he came again near the end and won bv half a head. Delvin Scott held second bv a length from Thurber Command, which had every chance, with; two lengths back to Captain Jura and Scottish Joy.
