Swimming BIG AGE-GROUP TEAM LIKELY
Two further records were broken at the final session of the Canterbury preliminaries of the national age-group championships at the Queen Elizabeth 11 Park pool on Saturday evening. Denise Head tWharenui* broke her fourth record for the preliminaries in the 100 m backstroke. Her time of Imin 23.35ec improved by I.2sec her own Canterbury record foi JO-y ear-old girls. The outstanding swim of the evening was by Brian Honey 1 bone iSt Albans.' in the 14 and 15 years 100 m butterfly. He broke John Laugeson's Canterbury junior boys record by L4sec with his time of Imin s.Bsec, which was equal to the winning time in the event at the Hansell’s national age-group championships last year. Canterbury may have its largest team for a national agegroup championships when the finalists are announced later this week. In almost every event there ; is a Canterbury swimmer who; did a time at the preliminaries which would have placed them i in the top four or five last year. Miss Head.
