New feather in golf cap
In his golfing career, R. J. Charles has prospered through scoring a great number of birdies. But in his latest venture with birds, the New Zealand left-hander will not reap any monetary profit. In fact his birds will cost him money. Charles will sponsor a ! classic pigeon race for . young birds (from seven to | eight months) for the next four years. The race — from Palmerston North to Christchurch (426 kilometres) — will be called the Bob Charles Cook Strait Classic. He has sponsored the event for $lOOO — $250 each year.
