Expectations of an adverse view, bv the Confederation of British Industry, of industrial trends also affected the market. On Friday initial gains in the hope that the coal miners may postpone their strike action were either reduced or reversed after news that the strike is to go ahead. Engineerings were hit with Tube Investments and Guest Keen showing net losses of bp and 4p respectively. Industrial leaders were narrowly mixed. Government bonds were little changed on balance apart from mixed movements of 1/16 in the short-dated loans.
