Firmer tone to industrial mining shares in Aust.

Mining and industrial stocks closed on a generally firmer note in quiet trading conditions on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Oil shares developed an irregular pattern, but the undertone was weaker. B.H. Sth rose 11c to 266 c and Nth B.H. and C.R.A. made good progress. Western Mining was marginally better and Bougainville s’teadied. Gold stocks went against the trend under profit-tak-ing, Emperor shedding 10c at 200 c and G.M.K. 3c at 195 c. Woodside-Burmah eased slightly while Southern Pacific slumped 3c to 25c. Weeks was 2c weaker at 106 c but A.A.R. and Santos made modest marginal gains.
