Rhinoceros in Siberia
Recently the Institute of Geology of the Yakutian branch, Siberian Department, U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences, received word from the village of Churapcha, 240 kilometres east of Yakutsk, in the Yakutian Autonomous Republic (Eastern Siberia) that the joiner of a local factory, while digging a cellar near his house, unearthed a rhinoceros skeleton at a depth of 2.5 metres. The skeleton belongs to the hairy rhinoceros a contemporary of Stone Age man. In contrast to mammonths, these animals did not live in herds and therefore nobody has ever found their burial places, so the skeleton is an extremely rare find.
