Leaders clash
East ChristchurchShirley and Old Collegians, not so long ago two of the lowly-rated sides, play each other today as the joint leaders of the Christchurch senior club cricket competition.
The teams are locked to-| gether with 70} points each.| Today’s main match is atl Burwood Park. i The Rothman’s tournament I has affected both teams, but East has lost only its fast I bowler, A. J. Stimpson, Iwhile Old Collegians, so iwell-endowed with talented ! youngsters, has J. G. Wright. R. W. Fulton, P. E. McEwan, D. W. Bracewell and R. J. Pither in the team. Old Collegians is also without T. Mackie, and six. changes in its side from the previous round will be a stiff hurdle against East, whose only other loss is L. B. Glanville. The veteran wicket-keeper is having his tonsils removed. The loss of its two spinners, as well as two handy medium-pacers, will hamper Old Collegians against a batting line-up which is solid to No. 10.
East-Shirley could thus take this opportunity to move into the lead again, although Lancaster Park is only three and a half points in arrears, However, that team, which is playing Sydenham at Sydenham Park, will not have its New Zealand opening bowler. R. J. SHadlee.
St. Albans, fourth with 64| points, has included two young batsmen—C. Burtt and P. Johnston—in its team, and K. D. Arneson, who plSyed a few years ago, is also back for the game at Hagley No. 1 against High School Old Boys. ! Riccarton and BumsideWest, sixth and eight respectively, play in the other 'game at Hagley Oval.
