First visit of vessel

The New Zealand Ship-1 ping Corporation’s first vessel would make its first visit to Lyttelton on March 2, the general manager of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Mr J. A. McPhail) said on Thursday. The new service was expected to compensate for the loss of tonnage through the port from the withdrawal of the roll-on vessel Wanaka. In November and December, Lyttelton handled 498.978 tons of inwards and outwards cargo, an increase of 28,833 tons on the same period a year ago. Coastal cargoes in the same two months had dropped by 52,505 tons, in large part due to the loss of the Wanaka.
