Pompidou has flu

The Elysee Palace has an-! nounced that President Pom-; pidou, whose health has been( the subject of concern over) the past year, is suffering! from influenza. The infection I will confine him to his room | for several days. Mr Pompidou’s illness was! announced in a communique; signed by his doctor, Profes-, sor Jean Vignalou. ‘’Black law’ The Bangladesh Parliament has approved a bill giving the Government absolute! power to detain people with-: out charge," and to hold special trials for ‘‘offences of a grave nature.” The five Opposition deputies walked out in protest, describing the bill as ‘‘a piece of black law.” Known as the Special Powers Bill of 1974, the legis-i Jation will leave Government actions immune from challenge in the courts. —Dacca, February 7. {
