Salad foods popular
' Salad foods were plentiful i at Christchurch produce mary kets and were meeting a Istrong demand, said the ’ president of the Canterbury i,'Fruit Retailers Association (Mr K. A. Fuller) yesterday. Warm weather had caused the demand for salad foods, especially lettuces of good i! jsize and excellent quality, said Mr Fuller. Tomatoes are plentiful and are fetching moderate prices. Celery, spring onions and ; radishes are readily available, -’■'and strawberries are in reasonable supply. Early season pears. Bon Chretien, are now available in shoos and there is a restricted supply of apples. e although more are expected " next week. a Supplies of Australian d oranges are almost exejhausted. but there are suffiJ? j cient supplies of Ecuadorean eland Islands bananas. North s | Island grown kumaras are n available at considerably d.lower prices than normal anc !- (water melons from Keri Ker 'are becoming available.
