I (.Y Z. Press Associatiori > ROTORUA. The names of persons convicted of drug offences should not be published, a Rotorua magistrate said on Monday. Mr P. J. Trapski, S.M., made this comment after convicting a Rotorua man who had pleaded not guilty to charges of procuring and possessing cannabis, and guilty to a charge of possessing the drug. The magistrate said that the publication of a convicted person’s . name immediately made him the target for the attentions of others dealing iin drugs. He said it was his belief, based on personal observation. that cannabis was not addictive, and on its own (was less harmful than holThe man, whose name was suppressed, was fined $75 on .the possession charge and ordered to pay costs on the other charges.
