Five hours less TV
(N.Z. Press Association) i WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. i Television stations will close about 10 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 11 p.m. on Friday. The reconstituted board of the N.Z.B.C. announced today that it aimed to save an average of five hours a week. The Director-General of Broadcasting (Mr L. R. Sceats) said the cuts would start next Monday. In general, stations would close an hour earlier than usual each night from Monday to Friday. There might also be cuts on Sunday if the saving of five hours was not achieved during the week. Transmission hours were also cut last winter. This year Wednesdays will be affected, but Saturdays will not. Mr Sceats said the closing time would vary slightly from night to night, and might be slightly before or after 10 p.m. On Fridays stations would close after the scheduled movie. Each night there would be a late news bulletin before transmission ended. Mr Sceats said there would be no cuts in radio programmes, as the power saving from this would be infinitesimal.
