Gold issues brighten on mixed Aust, markets
Australian markets closed on a generally mixed note in listless trading conditions again yesterday, with some late buying interest helping to boost selected issues off their lowest levels of the day. Although gold stocks firmed most base metal issues eased under sustained selling pressure. ■ G.M.K. and Emperor gained 15c, Hamersley and
jIB.H. South also improved but r \Bougainville declined 16c at . 218 c and C.R.A. dropped 8c ’at 340 c. i Peko-Wallsend recorded a i 20c drop at 580 c while Westfern Mining, Metals Ex., Pan- _ continental and North B.H. ‘ all drifted lower. Woodside-Burmah’s report . of production plans for the ; North West Shelf venture i came too near the close of 1 trading to cause any immed■jiate reaction, but the stock was marked up 5c at 170 c. Other oil stocks were O weaker. <■ B.H.P. continued to lack (support, and eased 2c to (786 c. Philip Morris eased 14c to 750 c but C.S.R., Comalco and E.z.l. remained 'steady. Hooker and Lend Lease rose and Amatil showed a marginal gain.
