U.K. POWER PLANTS Parliamentary inquiry

r.S Z e 4 Reutrr-Copyr.ghr, LONDON. Feb 5 A Parliamentary inquire team has urged the British Government to overrule calls for it to turn to Ameri-can-designed nuclear power stations, and to persist instead. with British technology. The recommendation came from the all-party Select Committee on Science and Technology, which heard evidence from a number of bodies as to which way Britain should turn for her next generation of nuclear reactors. The controversy arose last year when the Central Electricity Generating Board asked permission to build American-designed plants known as pressurised lightwater reactors, mainly on the grounds of lower costs and proven reliability Such a switch would mean : virtually abandoning Britain's long-established, nuclear research and development programme.
