Independent N.Z. force
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SINGAPORE, Jan. 30. The inaugural ceremony for New Zealand’s first independent overseas military force in Singapore will be held tomorrow. Called the New Zealand Force, South-East Asia, the group will comprise a Royal New Zealand Navy frigate, the Ist Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s No. 41 Squadron, flying Bristol Freighters and Iroquois helicopters. New Zealand units in Singapore were previously part of the A.N.Z.U.K. force, under an integrated command. Moves to establish the national force resulted from the Australian Government’s decision to withdraw its ground forces from Singapore.
