Technical awards
A special trust will be set up in New Zealand soon to administer Churchill scholarships and fellowships in technical education to be made available at Cambridge University next year. The trust is being set up by the Library of Imperial History. Similar trusts will also be set up in Canada and Australia.
Previously the programme of Churchill scholarships and fellowships to Churchill College, Cambridge University, have been available only in the United States. The three countries will have a total of 20 three-year scholarships for technical education; and each country will have two one-year fellowships. The scheme will be financed by part of the proceeds from the sale of the limited edition of the complete collected literary works of Sir Winston Churchill published by the Library of Imperial History, and by local fund-raising by the three trusts. The director of technical education for the Department of Education (Mr D. Nelson) said yesterday that the new trust would be a great encouragement to technical education in New Zealand.
