‘Fisher’s Ghost boosters’

Many receptions have been held in Christchurch during the Commonwealth Games, including one to mark Australia Day on Saturday—but there was one with a difference yesterday. It was a champagne party put on today by the “Fisher’s Ghost boosters.”

Campbelltown, a burgeoning city on the western edge of Sydney, is making a bid for the Commonwealth Games in 1982, and already they have adopted a local legend — Fisher’s Ghost — as their Games symbol. The party yesterday at the School of Engineering, Ham —next to the Games village —dispensed sparkling Australian wine mixed with orange juice.

Among those there was the Lord Mayor of Sydney (Aiderman Nicholas Shehadie), better known to the New Zealand Rugby public as a rugged forward in a series of Wallaby touring teams in the 19505.
