TAKEN AT HIS WORD
There was an air of lightheadedness about the New Zealand swimming team after John Coutts’s bronze medal swim in the 200 m butterfly. The section manager, Mr David Gerrard, had said before the race “If John wins a medal you can do what you like with me.” Some team members took the meaning literally, and tossed their manager into the pool.
