A long road in pistol shoot
Three times Dr Jules Sobrian (Canada) has competed in pistol events it Commonwealth Games and three times he has won a medal. But the gold medal has eluded him. Today, starting at 9 am., he will be one of the favourites to win the free pistol title at the Burnett range. The second stage in the fullbore shoot will continue this afternoon at West Melton. The top 16 shooters after this stage will contest the final, over the long distance ranges on Wednesday.
BADMINTON DUELS Two Englishman, a Malaysian and a Canadian will be fighting hard today to make the final of the men’s singles in the badminton at Cowles Stadium. The No. 3 seed, Paul Whetnall {England), will play the defending champion. Jamie
Paulson (Canada), and the No. 2 seed, Derek Talbot (England), will meet Punch Guinalan (Malaysia), These four players are very even and the scene is set for some good badminton. Three Englishwomen have made the last four of the women’s singles, and the No. 1 seed and defending champion, Miss Margaret' Beck, will play her team-mate, Mrs Sue Whetnall (England). The other game is between Mrs Gillian Gilks (England) and the fourth seed, Miss Sylvia Ng (Malaysia). The England team may fill all four places in the final, and Miss Beck and Mrs Gilks re-play the final at Edinburgh four years ago.
