Ran on dollar Seventeen thousand Commonwealth Games dollars are being flown to New Zealand from London to cope with the heavy demand. The chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (Mr R. S. Scott) said yesterday that there had been a big increase in sales in the last few days, and there were now only 60,000 dollars left. Sales included 250,000 in New Zealand, 108,000 in Australia, and about 29,000 in Britain. Family neat
A Christchurch man was surprised to find his seats for an afternoon swimming session were next to those booked by his wife’s sister and her husband, from Australia. He had bought his tickets four or five days ago in Christchurch. They bad bought theirs several months ago in Australia.
One down The only member of the New Zealand team not feeling completely fit yesterday morning was the manager, Mr Bill Holley, who woke up with a “heavy throat.” Mr Holley said members of the team were all "100 per cent,” and an air of optimism had spread through the camp. The medals at the women's 800 metres victory ceremony today will be presented by Mr H. L. Towers, of Auckland. Mr Towers was the athletics controller at the Empire Games in Auckland in 1950, and the track and field manager of the New Zealand team at the Empire Games in Vancouver in 1954
