Some Chch inquiries

Only a few of the Australian visitors to Christchurch for the Commonwealth Games have approached the Australian Government offices for further information on the flooding in Queensland and New South Wales. The Australian Trade Commissioner (Mr A. R. Taysom) said there had been two or three calls a day for the last four or five days about the floods, but most visitors seemed to be telephoning direct to Australia.

He himself had telephoned his daughter in Brisbane three days ago and he knew that some of the Games team had made similar calls. “There is about three hours delay, but they are all getting through,” he said.
