N.Z. marching

Sir, —If the ears of New Zealand’s Games team are burning, this is doubtless caused by the caustic and w e 1 i-deserved comments voiced by spectators who witnessed their slovenly, shambling, out-of-step performance in the final stage of the teams’ parade. Compared with the bearing and rhythmic marching of the

other teams, the casual, couldn’t-care-less performance of the New Zealanders was unworthy of the host country, and regrettable on a highly ceremonial occasion. Even those superb bands failed to stir this galaxy of New Zealand’s top sporting talent into keeping line, step, and posture.—Yours, etc., ON PARADE. January 25, 1974.
