Oaks rivals in smart trials
‘‘the Press” Special Service WELLINGTON’. Trent ham yesterday belonged to the fillies, and with the Oaks to be run tomorrow, a good number of them worked in fine fashion, notably Sugar Talk, Prepak. Bellota, and Free Gold.
Of the Adams Handicap candidates to work, Show Gate and Nordic Stir were two to impress. Most fast work took place on the course proper, with the flags out the proper distance. Showers had fallen before work started, which allowed the horses to gallop with more freedom, and times were generally good. Bellota (Willetts) was not after; time running 1600 metres in Imin I 47 3-ssec, the last 800 in 51sec| and the last 600 in 37 l-ssec. Free Gold (Willetts) and! Tagerty (R. Johnson) worked] pleasingly from the 1600 metres in Imin 43sec, the last 800 tn 51sec and the last 600 in 38sec. Sobeit (Gullen) and Cradenly (Andrews) ran 1600 metres in Imin 43 l-ssec, the last 800 in 51sec and the last 600 in 38sec. | Europium (Peake) worked! i keenly from the 1600 metres and | I picked up speed over the last 800 in 49 3-ssec, and the last I 600 in 36 3-ssec. Slaney (Landers) put the pace! on from the 1200 metres and was travelling fairly quickly at the 800. She slowed a little to come I from there in 50sec, the last 600! in 37 2-ssec.
Nickabum (Robinson) and Scampi ran 800 in 48 3-ssec, the last 600 in 36 2-ssec.
Kythera (Hare) and Anita Kay (Willetts) took tmin 51 l-ssec for 1600 metres, ran the last 800 in 51 l-ssec and the last 600 in 37 Msec.
Show Gate (Craig) was not really after time, but worked so well that she managed 800 metres in 49 3-ssec, the last 600 in 36 3-ssec. She could not be fitter.
Nordic Star (Willetts) reeled off 800 metres in 50sec, the last 600 in 36 3-ssec.
Marinoto (Franklin) took 48sec for 800 metres, the last 600 >n 36 Msec. Audaciter (Peake) worked
[from the 1000 metres and ran the last 800 in 50 2-ssec and the last 600 in 37 l-ssec. Brogue (Cullen), which will start in the Trentham Stakes, worked once round (2000 metres). He was timed for the last 1600 in Imin 45 2-ssec, the last 800 in 49sec, and the last 600 in 37 ! 4-ssec. ' Peg’s Pride (Harrison) Im- ; pressed in running 1600 metres ;in Imin 46 3-ssec, after starting ;at the 2000 metres. She took 50 14-ssec for the last 800 and 37 l-ssec for the last 600. Somerset Pride (Cullen) and !Top Chief (Landers) scampered I down the chute from the 1000 | metres in 58sec. ! Belmaro, who needs one scratching to get a start in the | Adams Handicap, sped over 800 I metres in 46 4-ssec, the last 600 |in 35 3-ssec. Bel Cavallo (Cohen) took 48 3-ssec, and 36 l-ssec for I a similar task. j Fiore (Robinson) worked over 11600 metres, running home from the 800 in 51 l-ssec and from the 600 in 38 2-ssee. Rustaveli (Cullen) ran 1600 metres in Imin 42 2-ssec, the last 800 in 50 2-ssec and the last 600 iin 36sec. He worked keenly. ; Fraxable (Andrews) dashed iover 800 metres in 48 4-ssec, the last 600 in 35 4-ssec. On Show (Willetts) and No Show (Peake) ran 800 metres in 50sec. the last 600 in 37sec.
