B.H.P. FINDS MORE OIL Sotong field extended

The size of the Sotong Bl oil field in the South China Sea was significantly) increased when the Broken) Hill Proprietary Company,) Ltd, yesterday announced I that the second appraisal! well had flowed oil and gas.) But it will be six to 121 months before it is known if) the field is worth com-) tnercial development. The development con-) sortium is finding it difficult! to define the field, eight) months after the first strike. The members of the consortium are Continental Oil Company, of the United ) States, 50 per cent. El Paso I Natural Gas, of Texas, 25 per ■cent, and BHP, 25 per cent. | The partners are believed! ! to be considering meeting) •soon to discuss the results' land a possible third step-out) well.
The report on Sotong B 3 gave no indication of how the field lies, although the three wells drilled are in the form of an equilateral triangle. The field is about 100 miles east of Kuantan, Malaya, and about 200 miles north-east of Singapore.
