Clemency urged
A Nigerian schoolmistress, Arit Umorem, wanted to retain her Government house so much that she sprayed petrol on a team of bailiffs i who came to evict her, and| set them on fire. The High Court in Port Harcourt sentenced her to death for murder, but the judge recom-j mended state clemency, and; the sentence may be commuted to a prison term.—Lagos, January 20.
