Melbourne for Cup winner
l (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. All going well, the Wellington Cup winner. Battle Heights, will start in the Melbourne Cup next November. The Waikato stayer's partowner, Mr R. Douglas, has never raced a horse outside New Zealand, but thanks to his prowess as a polo player he has already won a cup at Flemington. Mr Douglas captained the New Zealand polo team which beaf Australia for the Australasian Cup in 1954. The match ; was played in the centre of the I course at Flemington, the home of the Melbourne Cup Mr Douglas said on Saturday that he was more attracted to a start in the Melbourne Cup than in taking Battle Heights to Australia for the Sydney Cup at Easter.
